The Outreach group is seeking candidates for the GSC Extensive Study, a one-year postbaccalaureate program. The position entails rotating through several groups at the GSC, which include medical sequencing, microarray, and sequence improvement. This will involve activities focused on PCR based sequencing, improving DNA sequence data using computer software and wet chemistries. Other components of this program include: GRE preparation (KAPLAN), graduate school preparation workshops, career advisement, departmental/university seminars. Candidates will also have the opportunity to take one course through Washington University U-College. The goal of the GSC Extensive Study is to increase the number of minorities who pursue Ph.D's in genetics/genomics related fields.

- US citizenship or permanent residency
- Competitive GPA (overall and STEM)
- At least one formal research experience in a laboratory setting where hypothesis driven research is conducted (summer research programs, academic year research)
- Knowledge of PCR and its uses is a must (theory or practice)
- Knowledge of the process of DNA sequencing and analysis is a plus
Program will begin Summer 2008
