Extensive Study Program

The Outreach group at The Genome Institute at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking bright and motivated candidates for the OGR Extensive Study, a one-year post-baccalaureate program. The position entails conducting biomedical research in a genomics/genetics related area with an independent investigator. Over the course of the year, participants will be expected to gain substantial independence in the laboratory. Participants will also be expected to submit applications to competitive Ph.D. programs duing their matriculation in the program. Other components of this program include:

  • GRE preparation (KAPLAN)
  • Graduate school preparation workshops
  • Career advisement
  • Departmental/university seminars

Candidates may also have the opportunity to audit a graduate level course.

Requirements:

  • BA or BS in STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) from a four-year university or college (must have earned degree between spring 2010 - spring 2012)
  • US citizenship or permanent residency
  • Competitive GPA (overall and STEM)
  • At least one formal research experience in a laboratory setting where hypothesis driven research is conducted (summer research programs, academic year research)
  • Knowledge of PCR and its uses is a must (theory or practice)
  • Knowledge of the process of DNA sequencing and analysis is a plus

Program will begin Summer 2012. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.
