Melanoma Sequencing Project

Understanding the genetic underpinnings of skin cancer

This collaboration with the Moffit Cancer Center in Florida seeks to understand the genetic underpinnings of skin cancer.

Melanoma Sequencing Project Details

Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. It is the leading cause of death from skin disease. The goal of the Melanoma Sequencing Project is to obtain a comprehensive description of the mutational changes that drive cutaneous melanoma and subsequent metastatic disease. The project involves obtaining whole genome DNA sequences for 12 tumor and matched normal samples. At least two of these samples will include additional sequence analysis of a metastatic tumor. This project represents the first known application of high-throughput genome sequencing to the study of melanoma.
