Construction of the Physical Map of Pan troglodytes ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The physical map of Pan troglodytes was constructed by generating fingerprints from BAC libraries CHORI-251 and RPCI-43 (http://bacpac.chori.org/). 223,266 clones were successfully fingerprinted, analyzed with Image (http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Software/Image) and assembled in an FPC database (http://www.agcol.arizona.edu/software/fpc/). The assembled contigs were manually edited to achieve proper order based upon fingerprint banding patterns and were then merged with one another to generate the largest contigs possible. The physical map started with 14164 contigs and was merged down to it's current state of 2026 contigs. Contigs within the map database have been numbered with respect to their position along the chromosome beginning with the first contig in the cytogenetic band. The first digit (or two digits) represents the chromosome that the contig is anchored to. A "9" in the second digit (or third digit) location indicates an unanchored contig on that chromosome. For example, chromosome 1 contigs are numbered from 1002-1246 and the unanchored contigs on chromosome 1 are from 1900-1916. Chromosome X contigs start with 23, chromosome Y with 24 and unlocalized contigs with 25. This physical map is a work-in-progress and as such is subject to change as edits are needed. Occasional updates of the database will be made available. This map was built and edited with FPC Version 5.0 ChimpMap.tar.gz * Bands -The original mobility values. * Sizes -The base pair conversion of each band based on a standard. * Gel -The actual gel images processed by Image. * ChimpMap.fpc * ChimpMap.cor * ChimpMap.fpp ChimpMap.fpc.gz Main Fpc text file that contains clone, contig, marker, and Fpc map data ChimpMap.cor.gz Binary file used by Fpc to map clones to bands for sulston score calculations ChimpMap.fpp.gz Fpc interface preferences file. The last three FPC files are part of the larger tarball, but are also made available as individual compressed files for users not interested in the raw data, i.e., Gels, Bands, Sizes. The name conversions are as follows: FPC => NCBI --------------------- C_AB => CH251 C_AD => CH251 PT => RP43
